Why you need to find time to pause…
How has 2018 started for you?
Do you feel overwhelmed by all the demands on your time?
Do you wish you could say no?
Are you finding very little time for you?
Do you feel that there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done?
If your answer is YES to these things then you need to read on to find out how to find time to PAUSE.
If you answered NO then please share your top tips for putting boundaries in place and finding time to PAUSE as I’d love to hear them.
Why do we need to PAUSE?
In our world today we are expected to be constantly switched on and available. There is no time to just stop and observe what is happening around us.
But we were not meant to be that way.
If we take on too much or over commit we can start to feel stressed or overwhelmed which in turn may translate into physical symptoms. PAUSE is so important to help to protect ourselves emotionally and physically.
By taking time to review what we have on our to do list and the things we have committed to we can really ask ourselves if these things sit right with us and if they will cause us to feel relaxed & happy or stresssed & overwhelmed.
If it is the latter learning to say NO may be helpful before you bring too much into your daily life and responding with ‘Let me think about that and get back to you’ is really ok.
How do you put boundaries in place?
Saying NO to new demands on your time is a great place to start – of course you can’t say no to everything but really look at what you are committing to and question if you really need to say YES or if saying NO would be ok. We often struggle saying NO to others as we want to please and have been conditioned to live up to expectations.
As I often say in Clinic ‘saying YES to others can sometimes mean saying No to yourself!
Plan in time for YOU – block out an hour a week just for you.
Switch off your phone, disconnect from the world for a little while. In doing so we enable ourselves to really connect with our own needs.
Ask for help if you need it – sometimes getting some help with our to do list can make things seem more manageable. It’s really ok to reach out!
Welcome PAUSE into your life
Give yourself time to be quiet and reflect on what is happening around you. There are lots of ways you can do this such as:
- meditation
- walking
- running
- soaking in a hot bath
- being alone
- reading a book
- booking a treatment
All of these activities will give you a chance to PAUSE and LISTEN to yourself.
